For sale on consignment, this 1971 VW Sportsmobile has been one of our favorite busses for a while! It looks good, runs and drives fantastic but is not in perfect condition making it an ideal bus for enjoyment! 1971 has long been regarded as one of the best model years as it is the only year US models got boosted disc front brakes and the simple/reliable 1.6L air cooled engine. This bus started out as a Kombi, the standard passenger model then converted into a camper here in the US by Sportsmobile. It has an elevating roof with an upper bunk, seating for 5, a convertible back seat, sink cabinet, removable folding dining table and more. Originally it also had a closet, curtains, more cushions and a refrigerator. We decided not to redo the curtains or upholstery, partly because it isn't our bus and also because color and materials are a personal choice. This bus has had extensive service done in our shop over the last few years. The suspension, brakes, tires (correct ones) are all in good shape. We also recently replaced the engine with a rebuilt unit. The bus runs and drives very well. We can see it going to someone who has had newer models and wants to get back to the simplicity and charm of a '71. We also think it would be a good choice for a buyer who's never had one. It's correct enough, in good enough shape and ready to enjoy without major projects. The current owner has had the bus a very long time, but they aren't using it anymore and want to given someone else the chance to experience this classic VW camper van. We have checked the vehicle over, changed the oil replaced the headlight switch and a few cosmetic items plus cleaned it up in preparation for sale.
